Your Eyebrows

Are Calling Out For Attention

Kajol and Karishma Kapoor were ahead of their time, owning their bold brows, unibrow et al. But you thank Cara Delevigne for bringing brows back into the limelight, rescuing them from the depths overplucked 90s despair. She had us aspiring to a fresh, new aesthetic: thick, androgynous brows that look like they’ve never been threaded or plucked.

And we ought to be grateful. Well maintained brows create a fresh face that is elegant yet effortless. As underrated as they are, if eyes are the ‘windows to your soul’ then eyebrows are the curtains. Make sure they’re perfectly drawn.

Brow down

There is no one brow product that fits all. You need to factor in your natural brow shape, brow hair density, and your personal preference before you settle on a product. Tossing between pencils, pomades, and powders? Here’s a quick reckoner. Pencils like the Faces Ultime Pro Brow Defining Pencil are the most popular. They easy to maneuver and quick on the job. Brow powders like the L'Oreal Paris Brow Artist Genius Kit help fill in any holes or sparse areas in the brows and create a soft, natural shape. For bold drama and brows that stay in place, turn to a pomade like the L'Oréal Paris Brow Artist Pomade. Brow creams & gel-like IsaDora Intense Brow Duo Compact Cream require a little more skill but they add color, subtle hold, and fullness to the brow.

Brush up

Eyebrow brushBefore you start filling in your brows, brush them down. That might not sound quite right but trust us it helps. Brushing them down reveals the natural upper contours of your brows and hidden sparse spots. Once you fill them in when they’re brushed down, brush them back up and out to set in place.

Arch nemesis

Create a believable arch. You don’t want to appear surprised when you’re not. Brushing your brow hair down shows you exactly where your natural arch is and gives you a great guideline from where you can build them up. If you want a higher arch than the one you have, lightly alter your brow shape with a brow pencil or gel, creating a slight peak where your natural arch is.

Au naturel

Thick natural browsTo make your brows appear naturally filled, follow your hair density as a guide. Your brow hair is thickest at the arch, it peters down towards the tail and is the most sparse in the beginning. When filling in your brows, first tackle the center, neaten up the tail and then go over the start with a light hand.

Trim the tail

Trimming-the-browsOverextended brow tails could make your eyes and face look droopy, which is the opposite of what you want your brows to do i.e. lift your brows up. It requires some self-control but you need to know when to stop. A simple way to do this is to hold a brow pencil diagonally at your nostril and line it up with the outer corner of your eye. Where the pencil hits your brow bone is where the end of your eyebrow should end (or can be extended to) without it looking unnatural.

Flick through

Natural-Feathery-BrowsColouring in your brows like you would your lips creates an unnatural block of color. The perfect way to fill them in is to mimic tiny natural brow hair with short light feathery strokes. This works no matter what brow product you’re using.
